“LaunchAbility’s ECI program has given us hope as we have watched our daughter learn to do things that the doctors told us she would never do,” said Mary Bales. “Through Tammy’s guidance we have become confident as parents and we are working hands-on as a family to help Libby gain some independence.”

“When Libby was born we were very hesitant about enrolling her in a program out of the hospital – we were just not sure programs like ECI would be right for her,” said Mary Bales. “But this program and Tammy Shirley our occupational therapist quickly won us over. We would recommend LaunchAbility’s ECI program to anyone – in some ways we feel we waited too long.”

Born with a genetic disorder doctors did not expect Libby to survive when she left the hospital. Through ECI’s home based setting approach, Libby has reached milestones that her doctor did not think possible.  She holds her head up and is beginning to track people with her eyes. She even has her own way of greeting people when they come into to a room. Libby recognizes her brother and sister and lights up when they are in the room with her.

“Libby’s family is amazing. They put everything we show them into action. Mom, Dad, her siblings and even her grandparents are all playing a very important role in Libby’s development,” said Tammy. ECI recently helped get Libby a referral to get fitted for special orthotics and a standing frame so she will have the chance to stand and become more mobile.

Tammy is beginning to write Libby’s transition goals for when she is eligible to go to school next year. “Libby has come so far! It is hard to believe that not that long ago when she was born, her family thought they wouldn’t even be able to bring her home from the hospital. Today we are so optimistic about what is ahead for her and her family,” said Tammy.
