Contract Job Coach - The Academy
LaunchAbility® is seeking two contract Job Coaches for our Academy Programs which are pre-job training programs for Adults with cognitive or Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (ID/D). One will be located at UT Southwestern in Dallas and the other will be at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Richardson. The sessions run for five weeks for eight hours per day with approximately two to three weeks off (unpaid) between sessions. The hours vary depending on the department trained but generally run 7:30-3:30. Pay is $20 per hour.
The Academy Job Coach will support the Academy Training Director on-site in both classroom and on-the-job instruction of people with ID/D. The Job Coach will report to both the Academy Training Director as well as the VP of Adult Services for LaunchAbility.
The Job Coach must have some experience with adults with disabilities (preferably in a work setting) and preferably have some experience teaching or training in some capacity. Additionally, the job coach will provide the following:
Employer Support:
- In cooperation with the employer, utilizes and implements systematic instruction, positive behavior supports, and data collection and interpretation as needed.
- Facilitates natural supports and positive relationships between individual and coworkers and supplements supports as needed.
- Provides any supports, resources or training necessary to maintain employment including travel training/ arrangements, interpersonal skills, and family or personal support
- Develops and implements systematic plan to fade presence at job site.
- Assists trainees with applying and interviewing for positions after Academy graduation.
- Provides ongoing technical assistance and support to employer and mentor-coworkers.
- Completes daily training notes and paperwork as required by the state or employer.
Advocacy:
Assures that efforts are undertaken to implement the individual choices and preferences of each person.

- Communicates and interacts with all significant people in the lives of people supported to ensure successful employment.
- Facilitates natural supports and the development of relationships at work.
- Is committed to developing independence in the lives of people with ID/D
Background check and drug screening are required.
Additionally, UT Southwestern requires all workers to have a current TB screen (within a year) and have had or have started the Hepititis B vaccine series. These can be completed after contracting is offered but must be completed before the job coach can work on-site.
Other requirements: English fluency with complex written and verbal communications is necessary. Ability to meet the physical demands of any of the tasks required for the trainees to learn on the job being trained including but not limited to: standing eight hours, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, close and distance vision, and in a variety of environments including office, warehouse, indoors and outdoors.
